The gut-skin-hormone connection

In Ayurveda, the skin is called a mirror of the digestive system. Modern research agrees: gut health, skin health, and inflammation are deeply interconnected through what's now called the gut-skin axis. When digestion is impaired, toxins (ama) accumulate in the tissues and find their way out through the skin. Simultaneously, hormonal imbalance, liver congestion, and chronic stress all amplify inflammation — making the skin more reactive, more sensitive, and slower to heal.

As a holistic esthetician and Ayurvedic practitioner, I see the skin not as a problem to be suppressed but as a roadmap. When we address the root — digestion, detoxification, hormones, stress — the skin reflects that clarity back.
